Background

Asian Side of the Doc, a documentary market taking place annually in different Asian cities, has been in operation for five years, presented by the French organisers of Sunnyside of the Doc.

The 2015 market will take place in Xiamen, on the south-east coast of China, 17–20 March. Previously it has been held in Chengdu, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul and Hong Kong. In 2014, there were 650 delegates from 43 countries, an increase on the previous years, and included some leading provincial Chinese broadcasters as well as international screen agencies, government representatives, European and North American broadcasters.

Asian Side of the Doc will include four days of sales market, pitching sessions with awards, panels, one-to-one meetings, training workshops, networking and social events with the aim to co-produce, sell and buy documentary.

The organisers say, "The 2015 event puts the spotlight on how to develop 'Asia to Asia' and 'Asia to the rest of the world' co-productions, with the proven benefit of a 1,500 square metre exhibition space enabling the buying and selling of programs... the perfect location to gather the international documentary community and develop new business partnerships on the rapidly expanding Asian factual scene".
