CineMart is a co-production market, run at the same time as the Rotterdam International Film Festival. CineMart was the first platform of its kind to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed.
Every year, the CineMart invites a select number of directors/producers to present their film projects to co-producers, funds, sales agents, distributors, TV stations and other potential financiers. About 35 new projects in need of additional financing are launched each year at CineMart.
CineMart is an 'invitation only' market. The list of industry delegates attending CineMart is carefully reviewed every year in order to ensure that the attending industry can contribute to the projects in the CineMart selection. CineMart-accredited guests are provided access to all festival and CineMart activities, get free admissions to public screenings, access to press and industry screenings and the video library. Invitations are sent out at the end of November.
The CineMart is open for film projects:
- that are feature films with theatrical potential (minimum length of 60 minutes)
They should be new or recent and have not yet explored all financing options and:
- can be in different stages of development for which a complete screenplay will be available during CineMart
- have a potential international market
- have artistic and other special qualities by demonstrable talented filmmakers
- have a producer and a director attached, who can attend CineMart.
A project should not have been presented at any other market or festival, except when linked to one of CineMart's partnering organisations.
"CineMart looked after us so well it was unbelievable. Everyone helped so well with respect to our accommodation, food, drinks, transfers, organising the meetings and the constant changes. It was an incredible experience and I cannot fault it."
"The whole environment is set up to maximise your chances of meeting up with all different people at any time to make sure that you can get your project made."
"If you work hard you have more opportunity to meet industry people at CineMart than many other markets as it all happens in the Doelen (unlike Cannes where everyone is spread out and hard to get to)."
"There’s a big market for Asian stories – not just in Asia but definitely throughout Europe."
"Australian financiers are finding it hard to embrace our project with its dark theme albeit hopeful, yet in Europe we found like-minded people who loved the concept and wanted to explore it further with us."
