Australian short films released in cinemas

In Australia, the UK and the US, 1988–2016

Next update March 2018

One short film, The Palace, was released in cinemas in 2012. It was the first Australian short to have a theatrical release since 2005 and was screened before the Australian feature film, Wish You Were Here. No short films were released in cinemas in 2016. An average of five Australian shorts were released each year in Australian cinemas between 1988 and 2016.

In 1990 and 1993 the number released in cinemas was higher than other years due to the release of anthologies. In 1990, 13 titles were released as part of Oz Animation. In 1993, eight titles were released as part of Black Holes/Flaming Desires and another 12 in Oz Shorts Part 1 and 2.

Title lists are available since 1998: see Titles released.
