Production of Australian mini-series for adults (including co-productions) declined significantly from the 1980s, when an average of 12 titles with average annual production budgets of $42 million ($101 million in 2014 dollars) were produced each year, to the 1990s, when the average was four titles with average annual budgets of $25 million ($43 million in 2014 dollars) each year. However, mini-series production rose again over the next decade, from an average of two titles with total budgets of $16 million ($23 million in 2014 dollars) in the years 2000/01 to 2004/05, to an average of eight titles with total budgets of $65 million ($73 million in 2014 dollars) in the five years to 2009/10.

Average budgets have remained relatively stable over the last 30 years, at around $8-11 million per title (2014 dollars).
