From 1997/98 to 2006/07, the ‘real-life/contemporary drama’ genre tended to account for the highest proportion of Australian series/serials (including co-productions). However, sitcoms have taken over in the last six years as the most popular genre. Since 2005/06, comedies overall have comprised more than half the slate.
