Time spent viewing free-to-air television, by age and gender, 2008–2014

In 2014, women spent more time viewing free-to-air television in the evenings (6pm-midnight) and daily (2am-2am) than men in both metropolitan and regional markets across all age groups (excluding regional 0-13 years).

Average daily viewing in regional markets was stronger (3:11 hours) than metropolitan markets (2:45 hours). Evening viewing was also strongest in regional markets (1:44 hours), although by a narrower margin (metropolitan viewing 1:35 hours). All average daily viewing was slightly down from 2013.

Time spent viewing, regardless of time of day or gender, increases steadily from the age of 25 with people aged 65+ being the biggest consumers of television across the board. This is consistent with people who also have access to subscription television (see Audiences: Subscription TV: Time spent viewing by demographics).
