Top 50 titles on free-to-air television, 2008–2014

Programs listed include the overall top-rating titles on free-to-air television across all networks and genres. In the three years from 2008 to 2010, all of the top 50 programs were Australian. Despite several foreign titles (highlighted) accounting for 16 per cent of the top 50 programs in 2011 and 14 per cent in 2012, Australian titles once again dominated the list for 2013. Only one foreign title made the list in 2014.

In 2008, 18 per cent of the top 50 titles were drama while 48 per cent were sport and 34 per cent news and current affairs. There were no titles in the light entertainment category. By 2013, light entertainment and reality titles accounted for 78 per cent of the top 50, followed by sports (16 per cent), drama (6 per cent) and news/current affairs (4 per cent).

2014 was once again dominated by programming from Channel 7 and channel 9 with no other network making the top 50. Episodes of My Kitchen Rules (7), The Voice (9) and The Block (9) alone accounted for more than 70 per cent of the top rating programs.
