International festival visitor viewing Australian films in August

Screen Australia will host a visit by Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF) Deputy Director Mr Jay Jeon, who will be in Sydney to view new Australian films.

Now in its 14th year, PIFF has grown to be one of the largest film festivals in Asia; its intention is to bridge the gap between advanced and developing countries. It regularly programs a wide selection of films from Asia and elsewhere. In 2008, PIFF screened 315 films from 60 countries to an audience of 198,818.

2009 sees the introduction of a new award, Flash Forward, for first or second features from non-Asian filmmakers. It carries prize money of US$20,000.

PIFF looks for relatively new artistic works by young and talented directors as well as works from established directors. The festival gives priority to world premieres and every film to be screened for the festival has to be at least a Korean premiere.

The three Australian films selected to screen at Pusan last year were $9.99, Disgrace and Lake Mungo.

Mr Jeon will be viewing feature films that have been completed no earlier than October 2008. If you would like your film to be viewed here in Sydney please check the PIFF entry requirements in the first instance on the PIFF website.

If your film meets these entry requirements, please contact Dale Fairbairn, Marketing Department, before submitting your film: dale.fairbairn@screenaustralia.gov.au

Submission deadline to Screen Australia is 5pm Wednesday 12 August 2009. Please send films to:
