Share of the Australian box office for Australian feature films, 19772009

Feature films under Australian or shared creative control earnt $54.8 million or 5 per cent of the total Australian box office in 2009 (which includes any film earning box office in 2009, irrespective of its original year of release). This is up from the previous year, when the share was 3.8 per cent, and is above the 10-year average of 4.6 per cent.

In 2001, a record $63.4 million was earnt by local features, including Moulin Rouge, Lantana, The Man Who Sued God and Crocodile Dundee in LA, but this represented only 7.8 per cent of the total box office that year.
