Number of free-to-view digital receivers sold (wholesale), June 2002 to March 2007

Updates unavailable

The number of digital television receivers in Australia has been rising steadily; a total of 2,547,000 units were sold to retailers by suppliers between June 2002 and March 2007, with 40 per cent of that total (1,032,000 units) sold since March 2006. The average monthly sales volume of digital television receivers to retailers and installers between January and March 2007 was 82,600. This compares to a monthly average of 71,420 in the corresponding quarter during 2006. Sales include set top boxes, personal video recorders and integrated digital televisions sets, but do not include all digital television receivers, such as receiver cards for personal computers.

In March 2007, Digital Broadcasting Australia (DBA) estimated that around 2.2 million Australian homes were receiving digital free-to-air television services (a penetration of about 28 per cent).
