Retail sales of DVD and Blu-ray players, 1999–2009Next update March 2011 DVD players, 2003–2009 | DVD players, 1999–2002 | Blu-ray players, 2007–2009 After fluctuating over the last few years, sales of recordable and non-recordable DVD players fell in 2009. Unit sales dropped from almost 2.5 million the previous year to less than 2.1 million, with the value of sales also falling by 14 per cent to $422.2 million, despite an increase in the average unit price. The average price of Blu-ray players continued to fall in 2009. Non-recordable Blu-ray players cost, on average, 59 per cent less than in 2007, with sales increasing from 6,561 to 124,303 units at a value of $45.6 million over the same period.
