Project Support & Investment

The programs of the three former agencies – the Australian Film Commission, Film Australia and Film Finance Corporation – will remain in place under Screen Australia until 31 December 2008. Links to these programs are available below.

Development Funding

Continuing the programs of the former AFC, Screen Australia provides financial support for project development, and production investment for the purposes of professional development, across:

Practitioner Support offers short-term development investment, experimental film production, internships and fellowships.

The Screen Business Venture Program helps practitioners grow or maintain sustainable businesses.

Recent application approvals

Production Investment

Screen Australia invests in a diverse range of Australian film and television programs according to guidelines established by the former FFC. Finance is available for:

  • Feature films (market attachment or evaluation)
  • Adult television drama
    (mini-series and telemovies)
  • Children's television drama
    (mini-series and telemovies)
  • Documentaries

    (domestic & international doors)

Production Investment Guidelines and Application Forms are now available, along with mportant updates added in July and August, relating to co-investment with the Producer Offset, eligibility requirements for the Evaluation Door, and the Producer Offset Margin.

Key Dates

  • Board meeting dates
  • Applications for consideration at the October board meeting, including for the Distinctly Australian Children’s Drama Fund, will be accepted until
    12 September 2008.
  • Applications for feature film
    Letter of Intent (evaluation door) will be accepted until
    23 September 2008 (note that special eligibility criteria apply).
  • Applications for the Special Documentary Fund will be accepted until
    2 October 2008.

Commissioned Production

Screen Australia commissions and produces documentaries under the following three programs, creating an audiovisual record of Australian life.

  • National Interest Program (NIP) devises, produces, distributes and markets a curated slate of documentaries of interest to Australians, or that illustrate or interpret aspects of Australian life.
  • Making History Initiative develops, commissions and produces a range of distinctive high-quality Australian history programs.
  • Digital Learning works with independent producers and new media developers to create content-rich educational resources and websites suitable for Australian education.

26 September: Proposals for Australia's Immigration Story, a cross-platform documentary series to be commissioned under the National Interest Program.
