Esteemed filmmaker Dr George Miller will choose which young Australian director will create the showcase documentary and mentor them through. He broke into the industry about 30 years ago with the iconic Mad Max and after being nominated for Academy Awards for his work on Babe and Lorenzo's Oil, won the Oscar for best animated film for Happy Feet in 2007. He was awarded the Order of Australia for services to Australian cinema in 1996.

Now in its 58th year The Sydney Film Festival (June 8 to 19) is one of the longest running events of its kind in the world, brining the best new films from around the world to Sydney. It will feature around 150 premiere screenings including brand new features from over forty countries, the festival screen shorts, Australian films, documentaries and restorations. SFF has something for everyone; from the analytical film buff to the red carpet devotee; from the pixel-lover to the rom-com fan.
