INDUSTRY ALERT: Cannes scout to return to Australia

Christian Jeune, Deputy General Delegate and Australian preselector for Festival de Cannes Official Selection (In Competition, Out of Competition and Un Certain Regard) will return to Australia in early December 2009.

Christian will be in Australia to view new features and short films that meet the  criteria for potential preselection for the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world’s most important festivals – because of its size, its prestige and the business that gets done there. In 2009, there were 24,827 professional registrations for the Festival and the Market (the Marché du Film runs in parallel to the Festival de Cannes).

The Australian feature film Samson & Delilah (w/d: Warwick Thornton, p: Kath Shelper) won the coveted Caméra d’Or in 2009, one of the major awards of the festival.

Filmmakers with features or short films that they would like Christian to view should first check the eligibility criteria on the Cannes Film Festival website before contacting Screen Australia: www.festival-cannes.com

Submission deadline to Screen Australia is Monday 7 December 2009.

Filmmakers with suitable eligible documentaries should submit directly to the festival.

The Screen Australia website provides a screening history of Australian films at Cannes, plus other information to assist filmmakers prepare their marketing plans.
