Doco report coverThe latest edition of the Screen Australia report, Documentary production in Australia: A collection of key data has been released.

First published in February 2004 and updated annually for release at AIDC, this collection of statistics profiles the state of documentary filmmaking in Australia. Statistics include production, employment, funding and release data. The current edition reports documentary production from 1996/97 to 2008/09.

Conference sessions

Screen Australia was represented in the following sessions at the conference:

  • Wednesday 24 Feb, 10.45am: Jackson Pellow, from Screen Australia's Marketing Department will join Richard Harris and Kevin Schaff to discuss 'The Anatomy of a Trailer'.

  • Thursday 25 Feb, 10.30am: Head of Production Investment Ross Matthews and Producer Offset Program Manager Michele McDonald will talk about 'Making Co-productions and the Producer Offset Work for You - Tricks of the Trade'.

  • Friday 26 Feb, 10.30am: CEO Ruth Harley will offer her insights into Australian independent documentary production and Screen Australia's role, a year on from her first session at AIDC in 2009.

  • Friday 26 Feb, 11.45am: Ruth's session will be followed by a practical look at doing business with 'Screen Australia - Behind the Screen (Australia)', with Head of Production Investment Ross Matthews, Manager Documentary Unit Liz Stevens, and Legal Manager Martien Coucke.

  • Friday 26 Feb, 4.45pm: Ross Matthews will participate in the panel at the final plenary session.

Investment/Development Managers Claire Jager, Mary-Ellen Mullane and Julia Overton also moderated several sessions throughout the conference.

Footage and stills for documentary makers
The Screen Australia Library is one of the largest and most historically significant sources of archival, documentary, stock footage and stills in Australia. We also offer Australian independent documentary producers up to 10 minutes of footage and 40 stills for a no-fee licence as part of the Zero Fee Licence initiative.
