Marion Döring, Director of the European Film Academy, will give an insight into the work of the European Film Academy and filmmaking in Europe in a talk at Screen Australia in partnership with the Goethe Institute on Tuesday 2 March 2010.

Founded in 1988, the European Film Academy now unites more than 2,000 European film professionals with the common aim of promoting Europe’s film culture. Over the past 20 years, the Academy has presented the European Film Awards, an annual showcase of outstanding films and individual achievements in European cinema and an important marketing tool for the films which have to struggle hard to find their way to the audience outside their home territories. What makes European films so unique and why are they needed in a globalising world?
