PRODUCTION INVESTMENT APPROVALS

At the Screen Australia Board meeting on 15 June, support was confirmed for five new feature films generating $38.9 million worth of production. Projects receiving production investment include Stuart Beattie’s directorial debut Tomorrow When the War Began and Nick Giannopoulos’ return to the screen in Wog Boy 2: Kings of Mykonos. Writer/director Bill Bennett will also receive investment for his new feature Uninhabited. Completion loans were approved for Khoa Do’s Missing Water and Jonathan auf der Heide’s Van Diemen’s Land. Kathleen DrummNEW HEAD OF MARKETING AND INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT FOR SCREEN AUSTRALIA

It was announced today that Kathleen Drumm will take up the role of Head of Marketing and Industry Development on 1 September. Kathleen has been Head of Sales and Marketing at the New Zealand Film Commission (NZ Film) since 2001 and has more than 15 years experience in marketing the screen industries. Full media release.

 

UPCOMING INDUSTRY EVENTS IN SYDNEY

Hot Docs and MIPTV debrief: On Tuesday 23 June at 5:30pm we will be hosting, in association with the NSWFTO, a debrief for filmmakers about Hot Docs and MIPTV (now incorporating MILIA) from recent attendees. It's an opportunity to hear about current market trends, the practitioners and other market intelligence. We encourage filmmakers whose works focus on documentary, children’s TV, adult TV and digital media to attend, but all are welcome.

Speakers include Screen Australia investment and development managers, producers and production company and broadcaster executives. Read the Industry Alert for full details.

Documentary productions on pay TV: On Monday 29 June at 6:30pm, you're invited to an overview of local documentary productions on subscription TV.

The seminar will cover a variety of areas, including an insight into each of the documentary channel groups available on subscription TV and what they look for in local productions – including BBC Worldwide, National Geographic, Discovery, Aurora and FOXTEL. Reps from various channels will be in attendance.
