Screen Australia has received a record-breaking 452 applications for Brilliant Stories and Brilliant Careers, the two programs announced in late 2015 under the Gender Matters initiative. This is the most applications ever received for any funding program and Screen Australia is thrilled with the response to the callout for projects that hope to empower and increase the participation of women in the screen industry.

Screen Australia announces latest documentary trends, challenges and new projects

Screen Australia CEO Graeme Mason opened the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) in Melbourne this morning with a keynote speech based on the findings of Screen Australia’s documentary research, which was published today. In his speech, Mason commented that changes in the sector, particularly around audience behaviour, the rise of VOD and the digital space, and the need for alternative and innovative financing models, are not imminent – they are already here. Mason said that the challenge now is to adapt in order to survive.

Screen Australia is tackling a new and ambitious project, to measure the economic, cultural and social ‘value’ of the Australian screen sector. The report, supported by the newly formed Australian Screen Industry group* will provide the screen sector and government with an opportunity to help shape future policy settings. The findings and a screen industry action plan will be launched later in the year.

MPDAA confirm 2015 best year ever for Australian film

It’s official – the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia have today confirmed local films enjoyed their best-ever year at the Box Office in 2015, sailing past the 2001 record of $63.4m in October, finishing at just over $88m in revenue. Even with an adjustment for inflation, 2015 was the best year at the box office for Australian film in 14 years.
