Kate Winslet voices Australian anti-bullying short film

Screen Australia has part-funded the sequel to Galvin Scott Davis’ award-winning children’s narrative app Dandelion. Available now at no cost, the five minute short Daisy Chain follows Buttercup Bree’s experience of school-age bullying. The stunning work of illustrator Anthony Ishinjerro is animated to touching effect by Frederick Venet, with Kate Winslet (The Dressmaker) providing the voice-over and music by Hylton Mowday. There is also a partner interactive app for Daisy Chain available for Apple devices through iTunes (AUD$3.79) aimed at primary school aged children.

Australian film selected for Best Foreign Language Academy Award®

Greg Sneddon’s Arrows of the Thunder Dragon has been selected early this morning AEDT as Australia’s official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 88th Academy Awards®. The film will now compete with 80 other entrants from around the world to be shortlisted for nomination.

Google and Screen Australia have today announced the second annual recipients of the Skip Ahead initiative. Skip Ahead will provide the five 2015 recipients with the funding and production resources required to create unique online content and engage new audiences around the world. Google will contribute funding and resources, and will support the successful applicants to travel and work at the YouTube Space in Los Angeles this November.

Australian film continues incredible year with 13 films selected for London Film Festival 2015

The program for the 59th British Film Institute’s (BFI) London Film Festival will feature a record-breaking 13 Australian films, with Simon Stone’s The Daughter included in the Official Competition. Furthermore, Bentley Dean and Martin Butler’s Tanna and Ariel Kleiman’s Partisan are both in consideration for the Sutherland Award in the First Feature Competition. Jennifer Peedom’s Sherpa will have its European Premiere at the Festival and will compete for the Grierson Award in the Documentary Competition.

Screen Australia congratulates the directors, producers and creative teams behind the thirteen extraordinary Australian films that have been selected for the 40^th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). These include six world premieres, three international premieres (outside Australia), three North American premieres and one Canadian premiere. Other Australian talent including Toni Collette, Naomi Watts, Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Joel Edgerton, and Nicole Kidman will feature in other films shown throughout the Gala and Special Presentations sections.
