Location Offset
The Federal Government introduced the Refundable Film Tax Offset (RFTO) several years ago to encourage large-budget foreign productions to shoot in Australia, providing a rebate on qualifying expenditure above $15 million. In May 2007, the RFTO was replaced by the Location Offset and the rate was increased from 12 per cent to 15 per cent. Based on estimated expenditure, there were no titles from the 2008/09 slate that would be eligible to apply for the Location Offset, reflecting the contraction in foreign production this year.
