A 16-day, non-competitive event, the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) was founded by the former Hong Kong Urban Council, and organised by the former Urban Services Department in 1977. Since its inception, the festival has been regarded as the showcase of Asian Cinema and played a key role in introducing Hong Kong Cinema to the world.
