Paper Planes has been selected to screen at the prominent Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) in February 2015. The feature film will have its European premiere in the festival’s Generation Kplus program.

Writer, director and producer Robert Connolly said, “We are all very excited to return to the Berlinale next year to launch Paper Planes in Europe, a festival that has been a wonderful pioneer in championing cinema for kids from all over the world.”

Screen Australia’s CEO, Graeme Mason, said, “We are thrilled for Rob and his team to present their feel-good film to the Berlin audience. The film received rave reviews following its screening in Toronto and Busan this year and it marks a great distinction for them to be recognised by three of the leading film festivals in the world.”

The film stars Sam Worthington, Ed Oxenbould, Deborah Mailman and David Wenham. It is an imaginative children’s film about a young Australian boy’s passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan. Robert Connolly wrote, produced and directed the film along with writer Steve Worland and producers Maggie Miles and Liz Kearney.

Robert Connolly’s films have screened in over 30 major international film festivals and he returns to Berlin for the third time with Paper Planes. The first feature Robert produced, The Boys, debuted in Berlinale in 1998 and last year he was invited to Berlin for his directorial collaboration in The Turning. His credits include writer/director of Balibo (2009) and Underground: The Julian Assange Story (2012), and producer of Romulus, My Father (2007). In 2013, Robert executive produced These Final Hours.
