Cinematic TV in the spotlight

Sydney Film Festival includes a special preview screening of the ABC’s much anticipated mini-series The Secret River in its program. And in Tassie, the world premiere of The Kettering Incident at Dark Mofo will screen in two sold out theatres.
The Secret River will go to air on the ABC on Sunday 14 June, just three days after its world premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on Thursday 11 June.
The two-part mini-series is based on the award-winning book by Kate Grenville, which follows emancipated convict William Thornhill and his family as they stake claim to 100 acres on the Hawkesbury River, only to find that it’s Aboriginal land.
Adapted for TV by screenwriters Jan Sardi and Mac Gudgeon, whose previous titles include Shine and Last Ride, respectively, the mini-series is directed by Daina Reid. AACTA award-winning Sarah Snook stars as Sal Thornhill and Oliver Jackson-Cohen is William Thornhill.
The mini-series also stars Lachy Hulme, Tim Minchin, Genevieve Lemon and Trevor Jamieson.
And on Wednesday 10 June, Foxtel’s The Kettering Incident will have its world premiere at Dark Mofo in Hobart.
The Kettering Incident’s double episode screening at Dark Mofo sold out in two hours. The festival added a second venue and eight more screens, which also sold out.
Filmed in Tasmania, the eight-part series follows Dr Anna Macy, a young woman who is inextricably linked to two girls’ identical disappearances that happened 15 years apart.
Starring Elizabeth Debicki and Matt Le Nevez, The Kettering Incident was written by Tasmanian Victoria Madden and produced by Porchlight Films' Vincent Sheehan, who produced Animal Kingdom, and Sweet Potato Films' Vicki Madden.
