Lisa McCune, Marina Prior, Hugh Sheridan and musician Kate Miller-Heidke are among the all-star cast announced this week for made-for-TV opera The Divorce.

John O’May, Matthew McFarlane, Melissa Madden-Gray and Peter Cousens will also star.

The Divorce is a new opera written and designed to be filmed as a four-part TV series and as a feature to reach contemporary audiences.

It’s about a wealthy couple who throw a party to celebrate their divorce, and it goes awry.

The innovative multiplatform and multidisciplinary project is a collaboration between ABC TV Arts, Opera Australia and Princess Pictures, and is supported by Screen Australia.

Composer Elena Kats-Chernin, playwright Joanna Murray-Smith, director Dean Murphy, cinematographer Roger Lanser, producer Andrea Denholm and executive producer Christopher Guest will bring Lyndon Terracini’s idea to life.

Filming starts next week. The Divorce will air on ABC TV later this year. It will also be available online.
