Australia at Content London 2016

Screen Australia is supporting creatives from 10 different Australian companies to travel to the International Drama Summit at Content London 2016.

The key creatives in the delegation include:

  • Jason Stephens from Lingo Pictures
  • Kristine Wyld from Clandestine TV

The Australian delegation will also include representatives from other production companies, such as FremantleMedia Australia, Porchlight Films, Revlover, December Media and Every Cloud Productions, and Australian broadcasters, such as ABC, SBS, Foxtel and Seven Network.

Richard Harris, Head of Business and Audience, and Sally Regan, Drama Investment Manager, will represent Screen Australia.

Harris said: “This year’s Content London TV Drama Summit will have a distinctly Australian flavour. Television drama is booming worldwide, and with its talent base, production capacity and distinctive culture, Australia is uniquely positioned to take advantage of what represents a great opportunity for growth.

“Screen Australia’s delegation, comprised of some of Australia’s top writers and producers, is the largest that we have taken to the Summit, and has been targeted at helping them to connect with international partners and forge new creative and business relationships.”

This year’s sold-out event includes the following three panels, which will feature Australian speakers such as Harris, ABC Head of Scripted Production Sally Riley, screenwriter Vicki Madden (The Kettering Incident), director Jessica Hobbs (Rake, Broadchurch, The Slap). In addition Mike Jones will speak at the C21 Future Media Summit:

Could Australia’s distinctiveness be its secret weapon in today’s television landscape? AMC/SundanceTV’s SVP International Programming and Red Arrow’s SVP Scripted Acquisitions and Co-productions discuss their experience in working with Australia and why it has been an untapped resource for international collaboration. They will be joined by ABC’s Head of Scripted Production and Screen Australia’s Head of Business and Audience to discuss the benefits of international partners and why diversity pays off.

Television is traditionally a writer’s medium, yet the director’s role is growing with many hired to work across a season rather than one episode. How is this move affecting authorship and how are directors adapting to film-making for the small screen? A panel of leading directors discuss these changes and their approach to the craft.

The Content London International Drama Summit is quickly establishing itself as one of the most important TV drama events in the industry calendar. This year’s speakers include Joel Stillerman from AMC/ SundanceTV, Channing Dungey from ABC Entertainment, Morgan Wandell from Amazon Studios and Anne Mensah from Sky to name a few.

Content London will take place 29 November – 1 December.
