TIFF programmer in Australia this April

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) programmer Jane Schoettle will visit Australia in late April to view new Australian feature films eligible for this year’s festival.

Lion

Screen Australia will host Schoettle, who has selected many Australian films in the past for TIFF – one of the world’s leading film festivals, both in size and the number of films screened.

In 2016, five Australian films were selected for TIFF: Lion, directed by Garth Davis; Goldstone, directed by Ivan Sen; Boys in the Trees, directed by Nicholas Verso; Joe Cinque’s Consolation, from director Sotiris Dounoukos; and short film Trespass, from director Mirrah Foulkes.

The programming sections of the festival include:

  • Contemporary World Cinema, for films from established directors
  • Discover, for directors to showcase their first or second feature
  • Gala Presentations, for high-profile feature films
  • Midnight Madness, for genre films
  • Platform, which is a competitive section for feature films
  • Short Cuts, for international and Canadian short films.

TIFF will take place 7-17 September 2017. Eligibility guidelines can be found on the TIFF website.

Please note that documentary and short films should be submitted directly to TIFF. Details on how to submit can be found here. The deadline for these sections is 5 May.

Filmmakers with eligible Australian feature films should contact Dale Fairbairn, Manager, Markets and Festivals, by 10 April.
