The Screen Guide

Skin Deep is a story about a fair skinned Aboriginal girl who is upset and confused about her own identity. Twelve year old Sonia races home very upset after being teased about the colour of her skin. To her surprise she finds comfort and spiritual wisdom from her Nan. However, Nan in her own uncanny way challenges Sonia to go deeper than the colour of her skin. An old adage used in a conversation between Nan and her husband provides Sonia with peace of mind and strength of heart. Skin Deep is not just a short drama about race and identity, it’s also about the innocence and ability of a child to receive lessons in life from those long gone.
