Screen Australia is the Federal Government agency dedicated to supporting the development, production, promotion and distribution of Australian screen content – across all formats, genres and platforms.

Who We Are

Our purpose is to build a vibrant and sustainable screen industry that reflects the depth and diversity of Australian stories.

From early-stage development through to release and international reach, we enable these stories to find their voice and captivate audiences within Australia and around the world.

Through collaboration and innovation, we work to uplift the Australian screen sector, empowering practitioners to tackle the challenges of today and seize the opportunities of tomorrow.

What We Do

We support the creation and promotion of Australian screen projects across feature films, television, online/direct-to-audience content and games. We also administer the Official Co-production Program and the Producer Offset on behalf of Government.

Our role is to drive industry growth by providing valuable resources, market intelligence, direct funding and targeted initiatives to ensure Australian content thrives and connects with audiences.

Our Board

Michael Ebeid AM brings to the Chairman role extensive experience from his more than three-decade career in the media, technology and telecommunications sectors. He previously held the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of SBS and Group Executive of Telstra.

 

Michael was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2017 for his significant service to the broadcast media, innovation and multicultural affairs and was also named CEO of the Year by the CEO Magazine. Michael is currently also a non-executive director of the Sydney Opera House and BAI Communications.

 

Michael Ebeid’s second term expires 30 March 2027.

Megan Brownlow - Screen Aus Headshot

Megan Brownlow has over 25 years’ experience in media, marketing and managing digital disruption. Until April 2019 Ms Brownlow was a partner with PwC and the National Leader of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Industry Practice where she performed strategy, due diligence, forecasting and market analysis work for clients.

 

As well as being Deputy Chair and Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee for Screen Australia, Megan is Deputy Chair of the Media Federation of Australia, Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the School of Communications, UTS and a non-executive director of video technology company Atomos (ASX:AMS). Megan also has a small consulting practice, Housten Consulting, and specialises in designing and facilitating strategy workshops for boards and executive teams.

 

Megan is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), holds an MBA from The Australian Graduate School of Management, a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the Australian National University and a Leadership Talent Pool Certificate from INSEAD, Singapore.

 

Megan Brownlow’s fourth term expires 22 April 2026.

Dr Tania Chambers OAM

Dr Tania Chambers is a Producer and Executive Producer at Feisty Dame Productions. Dr Chambers has produced film and television series, including Invisible Boys, How to Please a Woman, A Few Less Men, Kill Me Three Times, the documentary Making Waves and the first series of the children’s series Itch.

 

She qualified as a lawyer and has previously worked as the Chief Executive of funding agencies Screen NSW and Screenwest, served as a member of Screen Australia’s Gender Matters Taskforce, and her board experience includes being the Chair of the Media Reconciliation Industry Network Group, the Film and Television Institute (WA) and the WA Screen Industry Diversity Leadership Group.

 

Dr Chambers was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the arts, and to film and television and she has received an Honorary Doctorate of Performing Arts from Edith Cowan University.

 

Dr Tania Chambers​​’s first term expires 10 July 2027.

Darren Dale

Darren has been a company director of Blackfella Films, Australia’s premier First Nations production company, since 2000, and is now the company’s Managing Director. He has produced award-winning drama, documentary and factual programs, including First Australians, Total Control, Redfern Now, First Australians, The Dark Emu Story and The Australian Wars.

 

Darren is a Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is the Board Chair of the Sydney Film Festival and also serves on the boards of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and the Sydney Festival. He was previously on the board of Screen NSW, the Council of the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS), ACMI and the AFI. In 2012, he was the recipient of the prestigious AFTRS Honorary Degree.


Darren Dale​’s first term expires 18 August 2027.

Marta Dusseldorp

Marta Dusseldorp is a respected and award-winning Australian actor who has worked extensively in theatre, film and television. An example of Marta’s countless accolades include the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actress in a TV Drama for the ABC’s Janet King, in which she featured in the title role and worked as Associate Producer.

 

In 2020, Marta relocated to Tasmania and opened Archipelago Productions, producing feature films, television and works for stage and festivals. She finished filming Bay of Fires on location in Tasmania.

 

Her appointment to the Screen Australia Board is illustrative of the agency’s function to support a highly creative Australian screen industry.

 

Marta Dusseldorp​’s second term expires 4 December 2028.

Deborah Mailman AM

The multi award-winning Deborah Mailman AM is one of Australia’s most highly respected actors on stage and screen.

 

Her feature credits include Radiance, Rabbit Proof Fence and the internationally acclaimed The Sapphires. On television, Deborah has created some of Australia’s most enduring characters including award-winning portrayals in Total Control, Mystery Road, Redfern Now, Mabo and The Secret Life Of Us, as well as voicing Big Cuz in the award-winning animation Little J and Big Cuz.

 

In 2017 Deborah received the Order of Australia Medal for Services to the Arts and as a role model for Indigenous performers.

 

Deborah Mailman’s third term expires 11 March 2028.

Nicholas Pickard is one of Australia’s leading creative and cultural industry policy experts and advocates. With experience in the UK, Europe and Asia Pacific he is currently the Executive Director, Public Affairs and Government Relations at APRA AMCOS, Australasia’s music rights organisation representing songwriters, screen composers and publishers.

 

Prior to this, he was the Director Corporate Affairs for Copyright Agency which represents the intellectual property rights of authors, journalists, visual artists and publishers. A former journalist, critic and an arts and screen policy adviser to state and federal governments, Nicholas was central to the team that created, devised and launched Australia’s 2013 national cultural policy – Creative Australia. Nicholas is the outgoing Chair of the Australian Society of Authors and a board member of the NSW Government’s multi-artform advisory board and music festivals roundtable. He is also a board member of Regional Arts NSW and a Fellow of The Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.

 

Nicholas has Bachelor of Arts in modern history and cultural studies from Macquarie University where he received two international scholarships to study post-war theatre in Manchester and Oxford, UK and theatre directing at the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television (AGRFT) Ljubljana, Slovenia.

 

Nicholas Pickard’s second term expires 4 December 2028.

Pallavi Sharda is an award-winning Australian actor, producer and speaker with a uniquely global career that has seen her successfully lead projects in India, Australia, the UK and the US.

 

Her credits across Bollywood, Hollywood, the UK and Australia include: Gurinder Chadha’s Beecham House, Netflix Series The One, Warner Bros film Tom & Jerry, Hindi films Begum Jaan & Hawaizaada, Oscar-nominated drama Lion, ABC shows Retrograde and Les Norton and the Australian award-winning series The Twelve. Most recently Pallavi starred in the US Netflix rom-com Wedding Season.

 

An honours graduate from the University of Melbourne, Pallavi holds an LLB (hons)/BA (Media & Communications) and Diploma in Modern Languages (French). An ardent advocate for intercultural communication and creating cultural links between South Asia and Australia, Pallavi speaks and consults widely on equitable treatment for traditionally marginalised communities and ‘debunking diversity’ across multiple industries and sectors. Pallavi has been recognised as one of the most influential Asian-Australians at the Asian Australian Leadership Summit, and in 2021 received the Advance Global Award for Excellence in the Arts.

 

In 2023 Pallavi launched Bodhini Studios – a story incubator dedicated to unearthing untold stories within traditionally othered narratives.

 

Pallavi Sharda first term expires 13 July 2026​.

Greg Sitch is an Executive Producer and Producer at Frank Worldwide where he has been involved in film and television series such as Crackerjack, Hamish and Andy’s Caravan of Courage, The Front Bar, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee, Fisk, Bay of Fires, Dear Life and children’s programs The inBESTigators and Do Not Watch This Show.

 

Greg is also known for his work on iconic Australian productions such as The Castle, Rove Live, Kath and Kim, Wolf Creek and Utopia. Greg co-founded the entertainment law firm Macleay William Lawyers where he continues to practise as a part time consultant solicitor.

 

He has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and has previously held board positions at the Melbourne International Film Festival and Melbourne Fringe Festival.

 

Greg Sitch’s first term expires 4 December 2028.

Our Executive Leadership Team

Deirdre Brennan

As Chief Executive Officer of Screen Australia, Deirdre Brennan leads the federal agency’s strategic vision to drive the critical and commercial success of the Australian screen industry. A respected global media leader, Deirdre Brennan has extensive experience in the domestic and international screen sector, future-proofing content strategies, partnerships and transforming teams and culture.

 

Prior to joining Screen Australia in 2024, Deirdre was the Chief Operating Officer of WildBrain, a global independent media entertainment company spanning content production, IP development, distribution and brand licensing.

 

Previously, Deirdre worked at BBC Worldwide Australia as General Manager/Director of Content. Her former roles include Head of Children’s Television at ABC TV and General Manager of Universal Kids at NBCUniversal (US).

 

Sally Mynett: Executive Assistant to the CEO.

Grainne is a strategic leader in the creative industries with more than 25 years’ experience in the not-for-profit arts sector, tertiary education and the public sector.

 

Prior to joining Screen Australia in 2022, Grainne was the Head of Screen NSW and since 2010 has held several senior roles in Screen NSW, Create NSW and Arts NSW, including Director of Arts Investment, Director Engagement and Development. Prior to this, she held senior leadership roles in international cultural relations with the British Council, roles in design education with TAFE and UNSW, and in management and development with the Australian Design Centre.

Mark is a qualified economist and accountant with more than 20 years’ experience in public sector financial management. He has held key leadership roles in the coordination and management of both the federal and state budget processes, and senior financial advisory positions in several government agencies and KPMG.

Prior to joining Screen Australia in 2025, Mark was the Chief Operating Officer for the NSW Parliamentary Counsel. Mark also holds an Executive Masters of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Music in piano from the Australian National University.

Irene McMonnies

 

Irene has over 18 years of extensive experience in various senior legal roles across television, radio and digital media.

 

Prior to joining Screen Australia in 2022, she was Director of Legal and Business Affairs at Australian Radio Network (ARN). Before joining ARN, Irene led the legal team as General Counsel at Australian News Channel and Nine Entertainment Co’s jointly-owned TV news channel Your Money, which she joined after three years in-house as Nine’s Corporate Counsel, where she focused on regulation and compliance.

 

Irene joined Nine from Prime Media Group where, as Legal Counsel, she worked across commercial advice, broadcasting services, compliance and regulation. Starting her career at Gilbert + Tobin Lawyers, Irene worked for eight years as a lawyer specialising in Intellectual Property and Litigation.

A strategic leader driving transformational change across Australia’s media and cultural sectors, Adrian has specialist experience in research and insights, policy and stakeholder engagement.

 

Adrian most recently served as Senior Engagement Manager at Strategic Project Partners where he led complex strategic initiatives for federal and state government agencies, financial services and FMCG. In his previous role as Head of Audience Data and Insights at SBS, he integrated traditional media analysis with emerging data capabilities, enhancing SBS’s research function to drive decision-making across content and corporate strategy.

With a distinguished 30-year career spanning broadcast, production, funding bodies and theatre environments, Louise is dedicated to nurturing talent and guiding stories from development through to market and audience. Most recently, Louise was the Executive Producer for Samantha Strauss’ Picking Scabs, a collaborative venture with See-Saw Films.
 
In her role at Screen Australia, Louise oversees Development, Production and Market & Audience for Narrative Content.

A proud Arrernte and Kalkadoon woman with German and Irish heritage, Rachel is one of the nation’s most renowned screen practitioners, bringing unique, compelling stories to life and advocating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-representation and equity for more than thirty years.

 

An agenda-setting director, writer, producer and policy leader, Rachel has lent her high-level expertise to a number of influential organisations in leadership roles across Screen Australia, AFTRS, SBS, ABC, the Australian Film Commission, NITV, Indigenous Screen Australia, the NSW Film and Television Office, the National Indigenous Media Association of Australia and the First Nations Heritage Protection Alliance. As a transformative director, writer and producer, and as co-founder of production company Blackfella Films, Rachel has long driven and shaped First Nations storytelling in Australia with a strong focus on self-representation, told by and with Indigenous media practitioners.

Norma is a seasoned HR professional with 15 years of diverse HR experience that spans across a variety of industries such as clinical research, professional services and financial services locally and abroad.

Norma’s areas of specialty include the development and implementation of HR initiatives, talent acquisition and workforce planning. Prior to joining Screen Australia, Norma was with the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

Audit Committee

The Screen Australia Audit Committee was established in accordance with Section 45 of the PGPA Act, to assist the Board in the discharge of its responsibilities. The members of the Audit Committee are Megan Brownlow (Chair), Nicholas Pickard, Deborah Mailman AM and Tania Chambers OAM.

The Audit Committee provides a forum for communication between the full Board, senior management and Screen Australia’s internal and external auditors. Pursuant to the Charter of the Audit Committee, the Committee must satisfy itself that the internal management and accounting controls are operating effectively, review the risk management strategy, consider external audit reports, and monitor management’s implementation of recommendations and regulatory compliance.
