  3. Social Media Community Guidelines

Screen Australia uses social media to communicate and engage with the public about our programs, funding opportunities, and news and information about the Australian screen and games industry.

These terms of use set out how we manage and moderate our social media channels, our rights when engaging with the public through social media, and your obligations when you use any of our social media channels (‘Terms of Use’).

By accessing any of our social media channels you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and must comply with them. Screen Australia may modify these Terms of Use at any time. It is your responsibility to keep up to date with any modifications to these Terms of Use. If you engage with Screen Australia’s social media channels following any modification, you will be considered to have accepted the modified Terms of Use.

We value your comments and engagement on our social media channels, and encourage you to share content and post on our channels.

In using our social media channels (which includes posting, direct messaging, commenting or transmitting material on our social media channels), we expect that you:

    • represent your own views;

    • are courteous and respectful of others and their opinions;

    • only post, comment or transmit material that is relevant to topics and issues being discussed.

    • reversion of Screen Australia entitlements.

In using our social media channels, you must not:

    • engage in any conduct which is unlawful or which would infringe on the rights of, or restrict the use and enjoyment of our social media channels by any other person;

    • abuse, harass or threaten others;

    • post content or use language that is insulting, offensive, violent, vulgar or obscene;

    • post content or use language that vilifies, discriminates or incites hatred, including on the basis of any personal characteristic including race/ethnicity, gender, marital or domestic status, disability, sexuality or age;

    • post defamatory comments;

    • make unproven or unsupported accusations against any individual or organisation;

    • post material that infringes copyright or the intellectual property rights of others;

    • post personal information relating to yourself or others (including email addresses, phone numbers or photographs);

    • post misinformation or misleading information, including impersonating or falsely representing any other person or organisation;

    • advertise, offer or promote anything of a commercial nature, or seek to solicit donations or fundraise;

    • post repetitive content or spam;

    • post about matters that are currently the subject of legal proceedings or would breach a court’s non-publication order.

You should also refrain from sending unsolicited direct messages to others who engage with our social media channels.

In addition, in using our social media channels, you consent to us reproducing and publishing your posts, comments or materials (either in whole or an edited version) on our website, social media channels and in any Screen Australia publications.

We moderate and monitor our social media channels during standard business hours only ( 9am to 5pm AEDT, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays).

We will make reasonable efforts to identify, moderate and remove any materials that breach these Terms of Use. For the purposes of moderating our social media channels, we use a post-moderation process, which means most comments are published immediately and then reviewed after publication to ensure compliance with these Terms of Use. There may be times when posts or comments that breach these Terms of Use appear on our social media channels before we can remove them. Please contact us if you are aware of a post or comment that you consider is in breach of these Terms of Use, and we will address the issue appropriately.

If you breach these Terms of Use, we may, at our sole discretion:

    • moderate, hide or remove any materials or comments you have posted;

    • mute, suspend or permanently block your access to or use of our social media channels;

    • report your conduct to the relevant social media platform and/or to any appropriate law enforcement authorities; or

    • take any other action, including legal action, against you.

You may choose to share contact information in private settings (direct messages) of the social media platform in order to allow us to assist with or investigate an enquiry. Any personal information collected by us via our social media accounts and channels is dealt with in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our social media channels are external sites run by third-party providers with their own binding terms and conditions. Make sure you are familiar with the policies of the platforms when you use them.

The views contained in comments on our social media channels are the author’s responsibility and should not be taken to represent the views of Screen Australia. We do not warrant that the information in these comments or any linked site or facility is accurate, reliable, current or complete. Screen Australia disclaims liability, to the extent permitted by law, for any liability, loss, damage or cost arising from you or another party relying on any information in or made available via these comments.

To the extent permitted by law, Screen Australia accepts no liability arising from its moderation or removal of, or failure to moderate or remove, any post, comment or other materials from its social media channels.

For more information on these Terms of Use or to report a post or comment on our social media channels, please contact us via the Contact Us page on our website.
