Toronto International Film Festival

Genre: All genre

Over the 10-day festival, Toronto screens 300 films (mostly features) from over 60+ countries. The sheer volume of the program makes it a tough challenge to experience even a fraction of the works on offer. Many new Australian films have their World or International premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival TIFF now accepts international short films, under 50 minutes, as well as international feature films and international feature documentaries, 50 minutes or longer.

Tips for Attendees

‘…engaging a publicist is highly recommended.’

‘The organisers of TIFF were very accommodating… it is best to begin preparations for the festival as early as possible, as closer to the festival communication becomes increasingly difficult in the rush to the finish line.’

‘Toronto is now very large and has moved towards being focused on the stars. Given the number of films being screened, unless you had a gala and big stars attached it was hard to get attention from the media and/or festival.’

‘The film’s website was especially useful in that it drew interested delegates and public to issues surrounding the documentary.’

‘To achieve sold-out screenings always make sure that the screening of your film is in the first half of the festival and not the second.’

‘Largely as a result of participation in this festival, the film has now been invited to over 30 international film festivals since its premiere at TIFF.’
