Market & Audience – Channel Management

The Narrative Content Market & Audience – Channel Management Program supports Online/Direct-to-Audience producers and creatives to increase discoverability of narrative content on their social media channel/s through greater visibility and audience engagement and impact.

This funding program only applies to Online/Direct-to-Audience social media channels that contain narrative content that has been in receipt of Screen Australia Online or Narrative Content Production funding (excluding Digital Originals) and inclusive of any First Nations social platform initiatives or program funding.

The aims of the Narrative Content Market & Audience – Channel Management Program are to support:

  • producers and creators of narrative Online/Direct-to-Audience project(s) (inclusive of VR, XR, AR and social media platforms) to increase discoverability of their narrative content and channel(s);
  • producers and creators of narrative Online/Direct-to-Audience (inclusive of VR, XR, AR and social media platforms) to increase audience impact and engagement with their channel/s and content; and
  • enhancement of a cohesive audience-focused engagement strategy to increase title impact for Australian and, where relevant, global audiences.

Market & Audience – Audience Testing

The Narrative Content Market & Audience – Audience Testing Program supports producers, creatives and distributors to audience test theatrical feature film projects. This funding program only applies to narrative projects in receipt of Screen Australia Narrative Content Production, Scripted Production, or First Nations Production funding.

The aims of the Narrative Content Market & Audience – Audience Testing Program are to support:

  • audience testing domestically and/or globally for Australian narrative theatrical Feature Films during post-production and before picture lock;
  • audience testing domestically and/or globally for Australian narrative theatrical Feature Films pre-release and after picture lock;
  • informing and enhancing a cohesive audience strategy to increase title impact for Australian and, where relevant, global audiences post-Audience Testing.

Skip Ahead

Skip Ahead is a joint initiative of Screen Australia and YouTube Australia. Since 2014, over the course of ten funding rounds, Skip Ahead has supported 47 YouTube content creators and their projects to develop their skills and support them to work towards sustainable careers.

Past recipients include minbitt, The Macfarlane Brothers, Lyanna Kea, Never Too Small, Michael Shanks (timtimfed), Rainbow Bop, Toby Hendy (Tibees), Danny and Michael Philippou (Racka Racka), and more. 

Skip Ahead is open to both documentary and scripted narrative projects from Australian content creators where the producers and creators of the content maintain and retain control of self-distributing the work and taking it to audience on YouTube or YouTube Kids. 

Skip Ahead aims to:

  • support a new generation of online/direct-to-audience storytellers and IP creators to expand their vision and ambition;
  • cultivate original Australian documentary or scripted narrative content made specifically for local and global online audiences; and,
  • ensure the storytellers and stories being told reflect the diversity of people and experiences from around Australia, and promoting their importance – culturally, creatively and economically.

Market & Audience – Assets Program

The Narrative Content Market & Audience – Assets Program supports producers and distributors to create assets for theatrical feature film projects. This funding program only applies to narrative projects in receipt of Screen Australia Narrative Content Production, Scripted Production or First Nations Production funding.

The aims of the Narrative Content Market & Audience – Assets Program are to support:

  • asset strategy, creation and delivery costs of assets for Australian narrative theatrical feature films during production;
  • asset completion for Australian narrative theatrical feature pre-release;
  • a cohesive, audience focused strategy spanning or inclusive of elements such as key art, campaign, social, motion design, brand and trailering assets; and
  • increased discoverability and impact of titles for Australian audiences and, where relevant, global audiences.

International Festivals and Awards

International Festivals and Awards provides support to:

  • the promotion of Australian content and talent at key international festivals and awards events, enabling the enhancement of international marketing strategies in conjunction with other partners.
  • acknowledge the importance of global strategies for new titles, restricted to their world or international premiere and planned related sales and marketing activities at significant industry events.

Whilst there are hundreds of international film festivals, this program can only support titles invited to the most prestigious industry acknowledged events.

Screen Australia will contribute to the promotional budget for eligible events generally up to $20,000 for feature films and television series and up to $10,000 for short films and short form series.

Narrative Content Production

The Narrative Content Production Program supports content makers to produce narrative projects for online/direct-to-audience, television and theatrical feature film platforms.

The aims of the Narrative Content Production Program are to support:

  • exceptional Australian narrative content for production and release for online/direct-to-audience, television and feature film platforms;
  • distinctive storytelling for a range of audiences across different platforms and budget levels;
  • talent at different career stages who are connected to the stories they tell and that reflect the breadth of Australia in service of cultural, creative and economic benefits; and
  • stories with viable budgets and pathways to audiences locally and/or globally.

The Narrative Content Production Program replaces the Screen Australia Feature Film Production, General Television Drama Production, Children’s Television Drama Production and Online Production programs and guidelines.

This program will have four application rounds per financial year.

As of 20 February 2026, new Narrative Content Production minimum licence fees for all television production funding have come into effect. Read more here.

The Narrative Content Development Program replaces the Screen Australia Story Development and Online Development programs and guidelines.

Narrative Content Short Film Production

The Narrative Content Short Film Production Funding Program supports a team of content makers that must include Director, Writer, Producer and, where applicable, Animator, to make a Narrative Content Short Film intended for theatrical festivals.

The aims of Narrative Content Short Film Production Program are to support:

  • Australian live action or animated Narrative Short Films for a first and primary window of a theatrical festival outcome;
  • talent who are connected to the stories they tell and reflect the breadth of Australia in service of cultural, creative and economic benefits; and
  • talent and stories with viable pathways to festival audiences locally and/or globally.
