Asian Animation Summit call for applications

Children's animation producers are invited to apply to participate in the Asian Animation Summit, which will be held in Hanoi.

The Asian Animation Summit (AAS) will be held 3–5 December 2014. The AAS is an annual event held to showcase Asia’s strongest animated projects looking for investors and partners. It is an initiative of Korea’s KOCCA and Malaysia’s MDeC, Thailand’s SIPA and DITP as well as Screen Australia, and is owned and produced by Kidscreen.

AAS will consist of three days of presentations of selected projects from Australia, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. Projects will be presented by their creators and producers to invited broadcasters from Asia and elsewhere, potential co-producers, and international distributors. The event will provide opportunities for meetings and general networking to facilitate project financing and regional connections.

Up to four projects will be selected from Australia and this call-out is aimed at commencing that process. Producers from the other participating countries should refer to the AAS website for further information.

Screen Australia, in conjunction with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will offer travel grants of $2,000 per successful company. In addition, they will be offered a free registration to AAS as well as access to negotiated accommodation rates at the host hotel.

Projects must be animation projects that have either:

  • a letter of interest from an Australian broadcaster, or
  • a written finance commitment from an Australian broadcaster, as well as Asian region investment, totalling 15 per cent of the production budget.

Eligibility criteria are set out in the guidelines, and Screen Australia will select eligible Australian projects based on global market potential and quality.
