About us

The Indigenous Department at Screen Australia works to support bold First Nations screen stories, authored by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander screen practitioners. The department has proudly funded award winning content such as Total Control, Mystery Road and Redfern Now (ABC), and feature films such as Sweet Country, Goldstone and Samson and Delilah, as well as numerous documentaries, factual series, short film and most recently online series.

About the role

We have now partnered with the Development, Documentary and Online Departments to offer a 6-month professional development opportunity for an emerging Indigenous producer or screen development professional to join us in the role of Development Associate. In this role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their creative judgement and industry knowledge of script development and financing by participating in and supporting the assessment processes undertaken by the Indigenous, Development, Documentary and Online teams.

Reporting directly to the Head of Indigenous, this position will be offered for a 6 month contract.

About you

  • You will have undertaken formal studies or professional training in a screen-related field such as vocational or tertiary studies in screen/film studies or AFTRS short courses.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in either the screen industry or more broadly in the arts-related industry with Credit for work on a short drama film or a documentary project.

  • You will possess an understanding or prior experience working in the development of a screen or arts project.
  • Have solid knowledge and understanding of Indigenous society and culture and an understanding of the issues affecting Indigenous people in contemporary Australian society, including the diversity of circumstances in Indigenous communities.
  • Be highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines; in addition to having well developed communication skills
