New filmmaking teams given a 'Springboard' towards their first feature

Screen Australia is pleased to announce the latest intake of participants for the Springboard: Short Film Initiative, designed to help promising filmmaking teams make the final transition from short to feature film.

The program provides teams with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to create a short film that speaks directly to their feature film screenplay, providing a strong showcase into the marketplace. A series of workshops plus intensive one-to-one development will tailor the process to support the specific needs of each creative team.

The five selected teams are:

  • Writer/director Nicholas Verso and producer John Molloy
  • Writer/director Miranda Nation and producer Lyn Norfor
  • Writer/director Lynne Vincent McCarthy and producer Samantha Jennings
  • Writer/director Sean Kruck and producer Caroline Barry
  • Writer/director/producer Antony Webb, writer/producer Ethan Marrell and producer Jaclyn Hewer.

“This year we are very fortunate to have the hugely talented Paul Welsh running the program for us,” said Screen Australia’s Head of Development Martha Coleman. “We have refocused the workshop to place the emphasis on process and pushing the emotional core of the stories. We’re delighted with the diversity and strength of this year’s participants and I’ve no doubt they are in for a transformative experience.”

Last year’s Springboard participants, writer/director Zak Hilditch and producer Liz Kearney, have just financed their Springboard feature film project These Final Hours set to begin filming in 2012, having made their Springboard short film Transmission earlier this year.
