Cannes scout seeks local films during Australian visit

Christian Jeune, Deputy General Delegate and Australian selector for Festival de Cannes Official Selection (In Competition, Out of Competition and Un Certain Regard) will return to Australia in January 2011.

During his visit, Christian will view new features and short films that meet the criteria for potential preselection for the 2011 Festival de Cannes. 2011 will be the 64th year for the festival (11–22 May 2011) which has long been a prestigious launching pad for new Australian films.

Last year, the Australian/French co-production The Tree (w/d: Julie Bertuccelli, p: Sue Taylor, Yael Fogiel) was chosen as the Cannes closing night film (Official Selection). The Australian short Muscles (w/d: Edward Housden, p: Nick Sherry), was selected to screen in Official Competition at Cannes.

If you would like to submit your feature or short film, please check the eligibility criteria on the Cannes Film Festival website before contacting Screen Australia.

Filmmakers with suitable eligible documentaries should submit directly to the festival.

The Screen Australia website provides a screening history of Australian films at Cannes, plus other information to assist filmmakers prepare their marketing plans.

Submission deadline to Screen Australia is Monday 10 January 2011.
