Calling producers of animation for children

Creators of Australian animated projects for children are now invited to apply to participate in the Asian Animation Summit (AAS).

Asian Animation Summit,
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; 10–11 December, 2012

AAS is designed to stimulate co-production and co-financing in the region. It is an initiative of Australia’s ABC TV, Korea’s KOCCA and Malaysia’s MDeC, produced by Kidscreen and supported by Singapore’s MDA and Screen Australia.

AAS will consist of two days of presentations of selected projects from Australia, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore by their creators and producers to invited broadcasters from Asia and elsewhere, co-producing animation producers, and international distributors. The event will provide opportunities for meetings and general networking to facilitate project financing and regional connections.

Up to 10 projects will be selected from each country. This call for applications is to select the Australian projects.

Screen Australia, in conjunction with DFAT, will offer travel grants of $3,000 per project. In addition creators and producers of selected projects will be offered free registration to AAS (two per project), plus they will have access to reduced accommodation rates at the host hotel.

Two types of projects are invited to apply:

  • Fully developed projects that have already raised at least 15 per cent of their budgets, and are seeking further financing through broadcaster pre-sales and/or co-production, co-financing and distribution arrangements.
  • Projects in development that have secured the endorsement of an Asian-region broadcaster, and are seeking co-producers and/or broadcaster and distributor support for further development and production funding.

Eligibility criteria are set out in the guidelines, and Screen Australia will select eligible Australian projects based on global market potential and quality.

Submission deadline is Monday 15 October, 2012. The AAS will be held 10–11 December 2012 in Kuala Lumpur. For more information on the Summit, see asiananimationsummit.com/
