Screen Australia announces new Enterprise Asia program

A new business facilitation program has been announced by Screen Australia as part of the Enterprise suite of programs.

Over the next two years, Enterprise Asia will support Australian screen businesses to travel to key Asian territories including Malaysia, Korea and China, and present projects they have in development or production.

“Enterprise Asia forms part of Screen Australia’s wider Asia Strategy, which also complements the recent release of the Federal Government’s Australia in the Asian Century white paper,” Screen Australia’s Chief Executive, Ruth Harley, said.

The program will provide funding of up to $10,000 per territory to screen businesses that have viable plans for building their company relationships and their slate in Asia. This may include such activities as the development of targeted Asian co-productions, seeking co-financing from partners such as broadcasters in the region, or building working relationships with other screen companies in the identified territories.

The funding will support travel as part of a delegation to the identified territories, as well as cover limited development costs for projects they wish to present to potential partners in the region. In each country, the program will provide information on doing business with that country, the marketplace and key distributors, broadcasters, screen production companies.

Three rounds will be offered. Some companies may wish to apply for all three, while others may only be interested in specific territories, or have content appropriate to a single territory.

The first round will provide funds for up to 10 companies with suitable factual projects to attend Asian Side of the Doc in Malaysia (19–22 March 2013).

Companies who would like to join a Screen Australia Asian delegation but who cannot or do not wish to seek funding through this program (for example because they are ineligible as current or previous Enterprise Program recipients) can express interest in participating on a self-funded basis.

More information about Asian Side of the Doc can be found on their website.
