AFTRS producing graduate receives Screen Australia prize

Screen Australia, Village Roadshow Pictures and The Gotham Group are pleased to announce Helen Burak as the recipient of the third $20,000 Screen Australia LA Internship prize, awarded to a recently graduated producing student from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

Commencing early 2014, Helen will undertake a bespoke internship at Village Roadshow Pictures and The Gotham Group, both based in Los Angeles. Working under the tutelage of Matt Skiena at Village Roadshow Pictures and Julie Kane-Ritsch at The Gotham Group, Helen will receive practical insights into all aspects of the filmmaking business, including tracking, covering and acquiring material, packaging and production.

Screen Australia's Head of Development, Martha Coleman, said, "International placements are an important part of Screen Australia’s Talent Escalator program, as these experiences hone skills and market awareness while also giving participants an acute and specific insight into the global industry.”

Neil Peplow, Director of Screen at AFTRS, said, “The Screen Australia LA Internship is a fantastic opportunity for new filmmakers like Helen to gain an insider’s perspective on how Hollywood and the international entertainment industry actually works.”
