Three Australian producers selected for prestigious international placements

Three Australian producers have impressed in a high-class field to win placements with Scott Free London and the San Francisco Film Society.

Scott Free London selected Sydney-based Karen Radzyner, whose work includes Miro Bilbrough’s Being Venice and award-winning miniseries Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo, to take up an immediate six-month placement with its development team; she will be followed in the role by emerging talent Donna Chang in early 2015. Aquarius Films’ Cecilia Ritchie will take up an opportunity to spend six months at the San Francisco Film Society, working with the director of its acclaimed low-budget feature film program, Filmmaker360.

As the successful trio get ready to grow their experience and skills overseas, Screen Australia is calling for applications for its second producer placement program in partnership with FilmNation.

This latest opportunity – which opens today and closes on Friday 20 June – is for two emerging producers to spend six months in the Los Angeles offices of FilmNation, starting in August.

The LA placements will be in FilmNation’s feature film production department and involve writing detailed coverage, preparing analysis of scripts and ideas, and preparing writer, director and cast lists and script notes on projects.

Alison Cohen, FilmNation’s EVP, Business and Legal Affairs, who created this program for aspiring film industry professionals, said, “FilmNation is thrilled to continue its partnership with Screen Australia and have the opportunity to work with more of Australia’s most promising producers. We have been incredibly impressed with our current Screen Australia placements, and can’t wait to forge new relationships with the talented individuals who will be joining us this summer.”

Screen Australia’s Head of Production Sally Caplan said, “We are delighted to be able to offer Australia’s most outstanding emerging producing talent the opportunity to work with some of the best companies and organisations worldwide and to bring back new experience, relationships and inspiration to the film industry here. I’d like to congratulate Karen, Donna and Cecilia on their success in being chosen as the recipients of placements at Scott Free London and the San Francisco Film Society. And I encourage promising producers to apply for the FilmNation placements – another great opportunity to learn from some of the film industry’s smartest executives.”

The application deadline is Friday 20 June 2014.
