Call for applications: Hot Docs delegation

Screen Australia to host a delegation at Hot Docs in Toronto.

In conjunction with Hot Docs 2016 Made In program highlighting documentaries from Australia, Screen Australia will host a delegation of Australian documentary makers to the complementary industry conference and market, especially targeting producers with potential projects for the pitching events.

Australian producers with market-ready documentary projects are invited to apply to Screen Australia for assistance to attend:

  1. Hot Docs Deal Maker – a one-on-one pitch-meeting program for producers seeking financing from the international marketplace and
  2. Distribution Rendezvous – a series of pre-arranged, one-on-one meetings with distributors, sales agents and festival programmers for finished, nearly finished and rough cut films.

Screen Australia will select and register up to five documentary makers with all-access passes, and provide up to $4,000 each for travel expenses. Successful submissions will be forwarded to Hot Docs for potential selection to Hot Docs Deal Maker or Distribution Rendezvous.

Hot Docs’ industry week

Hot Docs’ industry week runs from 2 to 6 May 2016, during the annual Hot Docs Festival in Toronto - North America’s largest, screening over 200 films to an audience of more than 200,000. The industry event offers pitching, networking, workshops and keynote speeches by industry leaders on the art and business of documentary filmmaking.

Hot Docs Deal Maker

Organisers are looking for the most compelling projects to participate in a series of 15-minute pitch meetings.

Projects will be selected on the following criteria:

  • Exceptionally compelling, exclusive and illuminating material
  • Brilliant storytelling
  • Creative and exemplary craft
  • Commercial and international appeal
  • Suitability for decision makers’ mandates and key requirements, and relevance to broadcast channels and slots.

Selected participants can request meetings, and Deal Maker will match projects with decision makers. Decision makers will review requests and accept those that are appropriate for their mandates.

All selected projects will be listed online and in a downloadable PDF available to all-access pass holders.

Distribution Rendezvous

Producers with projects at rough cut stage or complete are able to request meetings with participating decision makers. Project information will be forwarded to the requested decision makers, who will review and accept those most appropriate to their mandates.

Applications to Screen Australia are due Monday 15 February 2016.
