THE ACTOR AND THE PRESIDENT traces the lives of two extraordinary Sri Lankan individuals: screen idol Vijaya Kumaratunga and his wife Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Tragically the shared dream of these two young peacemakers was extinguished in February 1988 when Vijaya was cruelly gunned down outside their home. An intimate portrait of people playing out their lives on a wider stage - a reminder that the victims of war and political violence are real people, who despite their public stature share the fears and emotions that touch us all. As the current President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga continues to fight for solutions to her country's ethnic conflict - a war that the world would rather forget.
