Principally shot in China, the ASIAN TURTLE CRISIS looks at the rapidly growing trade in turtles. As the Chinese economy has expanded demand for turtles (both for food and traditional medicine) has risen dramatically. Rare turtles now fetch up to US$2000 per kilo. This cultural problem has experts trying many desperate measures before it becomes to late. Eighty to 90 species of turtle are now on the brink of extinction.
