Synopsis

Digging up the Past. Going in search of long lost treasure can be just a few minutes drive from the CBD. In 2007, Archaeologist Dr Shane Burke and a team of dedicated volunteers and local history buffs took part in an excavation of the Pensioner Guard Cottage (circa 1857) in Bassendean. In a time when there were little or no written records, the ultimate aim of the dig was to unearth hidden artefacts that would provide insight into the daily lives of the people who once lived the vibrant suburb of Bassendean.
