Synopsis

A study of the unique coastal coal-mining community north of Wollongong in New South Wales, on the edge of the Illawarra escarpment. There were scores of small seaside villages built on the Bulli seam, first discovered by shipwrecked explorers in 1797, but now there is little work for the locals. Even so, they are reluctant to leave the area to seek employment, and continue their struggle to keep the mines open.
