Synopsis

HEY SISTA! is a coming of age film set in far north Queensland in the 1970s. Lisa Canavada, 14, just doesn't fit in. Her father is badly scarred from a plane crash and her hair has gone all curly. Lisa dreams of being normal like the local Italian princess, Roberta, who taunts Lisa with her long straight hair. Lisa finds friendship where she least expects it when Marlene, a feisty Indigenous girl, convinces her she has an afro and can play with the Indigenous basketball team. Lisa's friendship is put to the test with some unexpected outcomes.
