The Screen Guide

James Cook was a petty officer when he was chosen to lead an expedition to the South Pacific in 1767. A Yorkshire-born son of a labourer, he rose up the ranks of the Admiralty and completed three epic voyages to the New World, his most famous being the discovery of the East coast of Australia.
