The Screen Guide

No Australian city has a more chequered history than Darwin, in the Northern Territory. The destruction of Darwin by Cyclone Tracy at Christmas, 1974, was by no means the first disaster to be experienced by Australia's northernmost capital. Four attempts to found a northern settlement before Darwin failed dismally, and Darwin itself has been wiped out four times - three times by cyclone, once by war. But Darwin fights on, and Bill Peach discovers that its battling spirit is a classic illustration of Charles Darwin's theories about the survival of the fittest.
