Historically Thursday Island has a rich history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people mixing with all cultures, in fact you could say we were one of the first multicultural communities in Australia. The Torres Straits has seen the likes of Japanese Pearl drivers, Indonesian labourers, Chinese business people and our own Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers.
