May Day, the international workers' holiday, is in danger of being lost in Australia through community disinterest. In an effort to bring people back to the union movement, and in particular back to the streets on May Day, the Northern Territory Trades and Labour Council has turned the First of May, traditionally a day of protest, into a day of celebration. The change, however, is not without opposition.
