The Screen Guide

Fred Williams was one of the great Australian painters. The sense of relentless progression through experiment, exploring the technical limits of his craft and the limits of visual perception of space, with the landscape as the vehicle for that progress, mark him as Australia's great modernist. The film is divided into four main sections - forest, fire, water and land - as these were the main preoccupations of the artist during his life's work.
